Firms with embezzlement record shouldn't be given contracts | 'Truck operators appeal FCI, CAPD authorities | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Feb 27 (KNS): President, Udham-pur Truck Operators Union, Harbhajan Singh, Monday appealed to Food Corporation of India management and State's CA&PD authorities to stop contracts to those firms who have criminal record of embezzlement and misappropriation of FCI stocks in J&K as well as Punjab. "It has been learnt that M/s Vikas Transport Co, had recently attempted to contest for some RTC contracts in Punjab region, where the DM of FCI region, acting responsibly and honestly, summarily rejected his tenders and termed him disqualified for the purpose, on the basis of his criminal record of embezzlement and misappropriation of FCI stocks in J&K as well as Punjab," Singh claimed. "M/s Vikas Transport Co had again contested in the RTC tenders floated by the FCI (J&K) Region, vide tender notice dated: 21.01.2012, this time for 12 depots (six in his own name M/s Vikas Transport Co and another six in the name of M/s Ladakh Roadlines, for which he is the major share holding hidden partner). Although, it was completely unexpected that despite of his history and negative track record, which has clearly been revealed to all concerned, that the FCI (J&K) Region would allow him to contest in these tenders once again, putting the larger public interest at stake," he added. The President, Udhampur Truck Operators Union on behalf of the Union, truck operators, supporters, allies and all citizens of the state requested the authorities to blacklist the firm and not to allow him any awards of contracts for transportation of food grains, for which, a minimum level of honesty, integrity and sincerity coupled with the track records of the prospective contractor should necessarily be taken into account and verified on all fronts. "We request the authorities in FCI and CA&PD) to take appropriate steps to do the justice and not to entrust the blacklisted firms any further contracts of transportation, in the interest of the poor people of Jammu & Kashmir to ensure and guarantee the right of food security to the people of J&K," Harbajan demanded. |
