Tarigami condemns use of force | Police disperses protesting workers | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Feb 28 : Police on Tuesday resorted to baton charge to disperse the striking trade unionists during a rally held here in protest against "anti-labour" policies of the Centre. The police resorted to baton charge and fired coloured water cannons to disperse the rally of trade unionists at Sher-e-Kashmir Park here after they tried to take out a procession. Meanwhile, State President CITU and MLA Kulgam, M Y Tarigami has strongly condemned police baton charge on CITU rally here today, which was organized as part of the countrywide general strike against the 'wrong' economic policies of the government, rampant corruption and various issues confronting the working class. Terming the use of force anti-democratic, he said that peaceful demonstration is a constitutional right of all citizens, which has to be safeguarded and respected by the government. "Use of force to quell peaceful and orderly demonstrations is unwarranted and unjustified," Tarigami said. "The government must do introspection and refrain from using oppressive methods to silence the voices of aggrieved. Denouncing high handedness on the protesters," he added. The MLA Kulgam said that such methods can never succeed in silencing the voice of the exploited and demanded immediate and unconditional release of all those arrested along with CITU leaders Abdul Rashid Najar, Abdul Gani Bhat (Trade Union Leader), Rifat Char and Manzoor Ahmad Bieg. |
