| BJP extends support to media fraternity | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 28: BJP State Unit today extended its support to the ongoing protest by the state's media fraternity against derogatory remarks passed by the state legislative assembly speaker against the media persons and their functioning.
BJP State President Shamsher Singh Manhas personally visited the protesting media persons at Press Club, Jammu to express the party's solidarity and support to them. He was accompanied by BJP National Executive Member & Chief Spokesperson Dr. Jitendra Singh and State Press Secretary Balbir Ram.
Manhas said that media is an important pillar of democracy and BJP opposes any attempt to suppress the freedom of press. In a healthy democracy the media has very important role and hence it deserves equal respect as extended to other pillars of democracy. It is due to media that the world has came too close and we get authentic, on the spot and fastest news of what is happening in other parts. The importance of the media should not be under weighed and the government should give due respect and avoid making unwanted utterances. |
