| 'Creation of new ULBs another discriminatory step with Jammu' | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 28: Prof Virender Gupta, the President of Jammu State Morcha in a statement said that the prejudicial treatment with Jammu region in the creation of new Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) vindicates the stand of Jammu State Morcha that the Jammu region shall be continuously discriminated against as long as it remains as a part of Jammu and Kashmir State. Out of the recently anno-unced 16 new urban local bodies, ahead of Municipal Elections expected to be held in April, 2012 only four are in Jammu region whereas 12 are in Kashmir Valley. The number of existing wards in ULBs has also been raised from 76 to 105 making 65 in Kashmir Valley and 40 in Jammu province. Not only this the wards of Srinagar Municipal Corporation have been increased from 65 to 75 keeping the number of wards in Jammu Municipal Corpor-ation 71, as it existed. It looks that the things were done in an arbitrary manner, as the authorities so far are mum on the criteria adopted in this respect. Prof. Gupta said that even during the Panchayat elections the Jammu region was discriminated vis-a-vis Kashmir Valley. Prof. Virender Gupta ridiculed the claim of the NC-Congress coalition providing equitable treatment to the three regions. He, in particular, criticized the ministers from the Congress party who are instrument in impinging discriminatory and biased treatment on the people of Jammu region. |
