National Science Day celebrated | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 28: National Science Day was celebrated today at School of Physics, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra to mark the discovery of Raman Effect by Sir C.V. Raman for which he received Nobel Prize in 1930. The event was inaugurated by Yugal Khajuria, Director, and School of Physics. In his inaugural speech he encouraged the students to pursue career in scientific research and developments. It was followed by a brief talk on "Life and works of Sir CV Raman" by Nitin Sehgal, M.Sc. student of the school. The debate and quiz competition was organized involving students from various colleges of SMVDU. All programmes and activities revolved round the theme of event "Physics: The Essential Science". The students from M.Sc (Physics II semester, IV semester) and B.Tech (EEC) secured first, second and third position, respectively. Shamli from B.Tech (IBT), Arjun Singh and Surbhi Mahajan from M.Sc. (Physics) won first, second and third prize in debate competition. All winners were felicitated with cash prizes and certificates. Coordinator of the event, Vinay Kumar said that the motive behind organizing such event was to enhance the knowledge and awareness of Science and Technology among the students. |
