| Dept of Sociology, JU organizes Prof Dube Memorial lecture | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 28: Department of Sociology, University of Jammu today organized 8th Prof SC Dube Memorial Lecture in the Computer Sciences Hall, University of Jammu, under the aegis of 'Prof S. C. Dube Memorial Lecture' series which is an annual feature of the department.
The theme of the lecture was 'New Anthropology and Sociology: A Perspective of Diaspora Studies'. The keynote speaker was Prof R K Jain, an Emeritus Fellow, UGC and Professor from CSSS/SSS, JNU, New Delhi while Prof R.D. Sharma, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu, Jammu presided over the proceedings.
In his comprehensible and insightful keynote speech Prof R K Jain focussed on the Diaspora studies as a part of new Anthropology and Sociology. He also highlighted the relationship and distinction between the culture and society by calling both of them as the two sides of the same coin.
He also gave background to the interface between anthropology and sociology and also talked about the reintegration of social and cultural anthropology with other social sciences.
Prof RD Sharma, Dean Academic Affairs in his remarks put forth his ideas about the theme and the lecture delivered by the main speaker. |
