From the composite culture of Jammu and Kashmir to toy and mask crafts of Orissa, from drug rehabilitation initiatives to security arrangements at nuclear installations, diverse aspects of India will be on display through 26 tableaux in the Republic Day parade here. "Eighteen states and eight central ministries would showcase the unique cultural heritage and achievements through these tableaux on Jan 26," Rakesh Bhatnagar, officer on special duty at the Rashtriya Rangsthal (RR) camp set up at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium, said on Saturday. At the stadium, final touches were being given to the tableaux and artistes were rehearsing in full vigour to iron out last minute glitches in their performances. The Jammu and Kashmir tableau will present a glimpse of prominent shrines of the main faiths of the state, thus focussing on the harmonious coexistence of its people. The first part of its float is the shrine of Charie Sharief with its unique wooden stricture and it would depict the Rishi cult of Kashmir. The Hemis Monastery of Ladakh forms the second part of the tableau. While Uttar Pradesh tableau is about India's first freedom movement of 1857, the one from Jharkhand would present the Sarhul tribal festival. The Maharashtra tableau would showcase its traditional architecture, performing arts and artworks. The state's float would display a hill temple complex coupled with colourful, rhythmic and robust dance with music and art of story telling. The architectural beauty of huge 'deepmalas', metal carvings, unison of the Vaishnav and Shiv cults would also be part of the float. Orissa's float will showcase its tiger-bull dance. "Apart from the unique dance form, our focus is on toy and mask crafts this year," said Tapan Das, information officer of the state government. Das who is overseeing preparations of the artistes said that 30 artistes, most of them have come from Behrampur district of the state. Apart from the states, several ministries including railways, home, tribal affairs, social justice and empowerment, culture, shipping, development of northeastern states and the Central Public Works Department would also display their achievements. "The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is participating for the first time and would showcase hi-tech security provisions at Agra, Delhi Metro, nuclear installations and airports," Vertul Singh, chief spokesman of CISF told IANS. The artistes would continue to rehearse in the stadium till the night of Jan 22 and afterwards move to India Gate for stage rehearsals
