| J&K DG Prisons listen jail inmates grievances | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 28: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Prisons Navin Aggarwal today listened to the grievances of jail inmates during his visit to District Jail Ambphalla in this winter capital of the state. A police spokesman here said the DG Prisons during an inspection of District Jail Jammu listened to the inmates' problems at an open darbar. "Mr Aggarwal also had a departmental meeting with the jail employees and inquired about various issues," he said, adding, "the problems ranged from non-production of some of the undertrials before the courts for several months due to non availability of escorts in some cases to some other claiming that they have been allegedly implicated by the investigating agency." Some prisoners requested for premature releases, while others pleaded for providing facilities for higher education, the spokesman said and added, "some foreign nationals confessed before the DG Prisons of having given fake name and addresses at the time of arrest due to which they are still unable to be repatriated to their home countries despite completing their sentences". Later addressing the darbar, Aggarwal said, "prisoners are mostly victims of circumstances and they deserve a humane treatment." He exhorted the inmates to utilise their time inside the prison in a useful and productive manner so that they come out as better citizens on their release |
