| National Science Day observed | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 28: National Science Day was celebrated today at Ankur Vidyalaya New Plots, Jammu under the auspices of Society for Popularization of Science Jammu and Smile Foundation New Delhi. The theme of the programme was "Biodiversity Conservation" in which students, staff and members of the management participated. The chief guest on the occasion was Prof. Hempal Singh well known Botanist of the State and a Former Principal. Prof. BL Kaul chairman initiated the programme and explained to the students the meaning and purpose of biodiversity conservation. He said that survival of mankind depends on the survival of other species of life on the planet. Speaking on the occasion Prof. Hempal Singh quoted many Punjabi and urdu verses to bring home to the young minds importance of earth ,water, air, and other life forms for the human survival. Meanwhile, Lawrence Public School also celebrated National Science Day. The theme for this year was 'Cleaner energy options & nuclear safety'. A one day seminar was held on this year's theme and the students were informed that the science day is observed every year to commemorate Dr. C V Raman's find of Raman Effect for which he later got the Nobel Prize for physics in 1930. Students displayed science projects prepared by different classes on this occasion. Students who spoke on this occasion included Moin Asif, Vaibhav Saraf, Tamana Sharma, Shazia, Shenaz, & Rafiqua. |
