Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 29: In order to raise the problems of the scheduled castes in Jammu and Kashmir more effectively, state BJP under its president Shamsher Singh Manhas convened a meeting of retired bureaucrats, senior officers, doctors, advocates, students and social activists belonging to the community.
The invitees in the meeting highlighted various problems and grievances of the SCs in the state.
Shamsher Singh Manhas, while speaking on the occasion, said that it is indeed unfortunate that even after more than six decades of independence and grant of reservation to this community in the constitution, their upliftment still remain a dream.
He said that initially reservation to the SCs was granted for 10 years when the Constitution of India came into existence with the hope that the living conditions and general upliftment will be achieved in this period but unfortunately it did not happen due to the false and half hearted attempts for the same.
He said that the BJP has always remained committed towards the SCs and regular interactions at different levels will be followed in the coming days.
National executive member & state chief spokesperson Jitendra Singh said that exploitation of the SCs has continued unabated with the only difference that earlier it was being done by upper castes and now the creamy layer amongst the SCs is also exploiting its own community members who are less privileged.
The upliftment of this downtrodden section of the society is challenge for all political parties, including BJP, Jitendra Singh said and added that the quota within quota policy of the present UPA is most irrational and unreasonable aimed at appeasing a certain vote bank.
State vice-president & ex-MLA Bali Bhagat, while expressing serious concern over discrimination meted to his community said that there has been total violation of reservation rules and under a conspiracy government issued different orders on recruitment policy, especially in education department witnessed in 2010, to deprive the SCs of their rights.
He said that although high claims of working a lot towards the welfare and upliftment of the SCs have been made time and again but the ground realities have not changed and a lot need to be done.
The party was also represented by Press Secretary Balbir Ram, SC Morcha State president Subhash Bhagat, Mahila Morcha State President Sakina Bano, senior SC leaders Chaman Lal Kanathia, Bansi Lal Bhari, Dina Nath Bhagat, Surinder Bhagat and Jeet Angral.
