Dilapidated Dhar road, threat to motorists | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, Feb 29: The inhabitants of Udhampur town are up in arms against the BEACON and Govern-ment for their failure to repair the dilapidated Dhar road. The road is in pathetic condition from the past more than two years and the government has turned blind eye towards the issue," the local NGOs told media. They said the people were facing huge inconvenience due to the potholed road and several car drivers have developed backaches while commuting on the road. Parvesh Parihar and Anil Paba of SRCO, an NGO said that the Dhar road which connects Ramnagar , Majalta, Samba , Pathankot and many other areas with Udhampur , is in pathetic condition, they said adding that despite numerous representations to the district administration and BEACON agency seeking repair of the road, the authorities failed to do anything substantial in this regard. Hundreds of light and heavy vehicles ply on it, but the dismal condition of the road is concern for every passer by. The 10 kilometers long road stretch from Udham-pur to Roun Domail has become a nightmare for the inhabitants of the area, and for commuters alleged Zorawar Singh and Jeet Singh, daily commuters on the road. Local residents alleged said that the authorities after facing protest from some local NGOs started repair work on the stretch last year and after macadamizing one kilometre of the road, they stopped it for the reasons better known to them. They alleged that potholes on road are like death traps causing great risk for every passer by. Local residents and NGOs has demanded immediate repair and black topping of Dhar road as it connects a large area to the Udhampur town, The people in the district have sought the intervention of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah in this regard. |
