Media boycott: PDP showed creative mind; BJP, Panthers did lip service
3/1/2012 12:24:12 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 29: The three day media boycott, which ended on Wednesday after clarifaction by the Speaker has exposed certain hardfacts about the deeds and actions of the political parties.
Except PDP, seen as Kashmir centric party, no other political parties, especially Jammu region based, where the boycott was being taking place, took a strong and hard stand in support of media fraternity.
PDP was the only party which moved an adjournment motion on issue though it was not accepted. The same party had earlier moved an adjournment motion on the issue of corruption.
The moving of adjournment motion, which as per rules is moved when the matter is utmost public interest or requiring urgent attention of the House, shows the concern of the party with regard to the democracy of the press.
The party had since then boycotted the proceedings of the House in extension of its support to the media fraternity and in regard for safeguarding the fundamental rights of both media and ordinary people.
PDP, which has been dubbed as party with 'destructive mind' by the CM, has by its this act shown the most creative and positive mind of all the political parties.
In contrast, no such move or gesture was moved by Jammu based party. BJP, though with reduced strength, did no deem it fight to move an adjournment motion in this regard. On the contrary except for symbolic walk out, the party even resumed attending in total disregard for the issues of the press, on which it relies heavily for publicity.
Even the expelled seven BJP member, were virtually muted on this issue except for customary remarks in the House. Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, the senior most member of the House, with all its political knowledge, though started the debate but then started attendintg the house.
Much was expected from Panthers Party, especially Harsh Dev Singh. He had been for time and again moving amendments on such issues which go unnoticed. He could have made a strong point for acceptance of the adjournment moiton of the PDP. Its this move could have not only send the message that Oppsotion wants early resolution of this confrontation but also could have helped in early end of this boycott.
The Jammu based party have by their this act given political leverage to the PDP and it wouldn't be surprising that it will succeed in establishing political based even in Jammu district, where it has been trying hard
