PDP relieved as media resume work

Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 29: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today expressed its delight when the agitating scribes ended their boycott of Legislative Assembly proceedings.
The scribes, angered by remarks of the Speaker on February 27 walked out of the House and staged a demonstration. They also decided to boycott eh proceedings of the House till the Speaker withdrew his remarks. The Speaker while responding to a news report had said that media `was under his control'.
A spokesman of the PDP expressed strong hope that not only will such piquant scenes be avoided in future but it should augur well for the relationship of legislature and the media. "The role of media in public awareness and prevention of abuse in state-functioning cannot be underestimated", he said.
The PDP said the spokesman, has always stood for free battle of ideas in which media has a significant place and did not deserve the treatment that they received on publishing received information on scams and misuse of authority by government functionaries and politicians .
The spokesman said the boycott of the scribes was applauded by the civil society and responded in equal measure by the PDP.
He said the party will continue to uphold the dignity of media persons. "The PDP will put in all efforts to uphold the freedom of press", he assured.
PDP, according to the spokesman, realizes the importance of media in contemporary times when the incumbent dispensation is on a spree of muzzling the voices as a calculated cover-up game of all and any misdeed they commit with impunity.
"It is the media that is anchoring a premier role in saving the state from a drift and provides people a much-desired voice. Where PDP is impeded in the accomplishment of its earned role of public service, media comes to rescue shouldering responsibility of highlighting the sufferings", he said.
We wish the government learns a lesson from the development. "The situation could have been avoided had the Presiding Officer of the Assembly not taken recourse of confrontation", he said.
Hailing the media for resuming their work in public interest, the spokesman said we applauded the principled stand of media against arrogance and irrationality; we see the return in the same spirit and feel relieved.
