Dy. CM in Srinagar, Advises Officers to accelerate pace of development works
7500 Dal dewellers to get plots at Rakh-i- Arth

Jammu, Mar 1 : Immediately after his arrival to Srinagar, the Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand today conducted an extensive tour of Srinagar city. He also inspected ongoing works in world famous Dal Lake and visited newly constructed Lepar Colony at Bahrar. He also inspected under construction Habitat Centre at Bemina.
He was accompanied by the Commissioner, SMC, Dr. G.N. Qasba, Director Information, Khawaja Farooq Renzushah, Vice Chairman, LAWDA, Irfan Yaseen, Director Local Bodies, Shamim Ahmad Leharwal, Chief Engineer UEED, Naresh Kumar and concerned officers.
The Deputy Chief Minister while inspecting ongoing work at Habitat Centre at Bemina directed the executing agency to complete all the works on Habitat Centre to make it ready for commissioning by next month.
Vice Chairman, Srinagar Development Authority, Dr. Qasba informed the Deputy Chief Minister that the work on the project has been intensified and the Centre is ready to house Local Bodies, Housing Board, Urban Development Agency, Architects Organization and Town Planner, under one roof.
Tara Chand was informed that Rs. 10.80 crore are being expended on the project. He was also informed that Bahrar Lepar Colony Project is at finishing stage.
The Deputy Chief Minister interacted with Lepers who are residing in old hutments and dilapidated dwelling places in Bahrar. He directed Dr. Qasba to ensure completion of new residential units for them with a two months time, so that Lepers are shifted to these newly constructed units and provided all kinds of facilities.
Tara Chand distributed fruits and blankets among the Lepers on the occasion.
While conducting marathon inspection of all ongoing works in world famous Dal Lake, the Deputy Chief Minister reiterated his commitment of restoring the past glory of Dal Lake.
Vice Chairman, LAWDA, Irfan Yasin informed Deputy Chief Minister that environment clearance is in process for Rakh-i-Arth where 10,600 families of Dal Lake are being shifted. They are being provided plots and financial assistance for construction for houses in Rakh-i-Arth. The project comprising 7500 kanals of land is coming up at Rs. 416 crores.
On this occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister and senior officers accompanied him were informed that 3 square kilometres of land mass of Dal has been converted to water body which has increased the water dimension of historical Dal lake.
The Deputy Chief Minister also inspected parapet wall, foot paths and beautification process of Lake banks from Hotel Centaur to Nishat, Ishber and on Foreshore road. He directed the VC LAWDA on the spot that tiling of footpath from Centaur to Ishber and on Foreshore road may be completed before starting of new tourist season.
Earlier, Tara Chand inspected government Guest House at Rawalpora and took round of the various rooms of the guest house. He was informed that guest house has generated revenue of Rs. 60,000 during last fiscal.
He also interacted with the deputations of Rakh-i-Arth and discussed with them with the development of Rakh-i-Arth Colony.
