DLS Jammu holding series of awareness programmes | Deserving lot urged to avail legal assistance | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 1 : District and Tehsil Legal Service Authorities will be organizing series of programmes in order to create legal awareness and cater to the legal assistance needs of downtrodden, needy and poor people of the district. The functioning of the District Service Authority was reviewed by Jang Bhadur Singh Jamwal, Principal District and Sessions Judge, who is also chairman of the Authority, in a meeting held here at district court complex, Janipur Jammu today. Among others the meeting was attended by Additional District Judge (Matrimonial Cases) Nighat Sultana, Retainer Lawyers, para-legal volunteers and officials of the Legal Service Authority Jammu. Speaking in the meeting, the Chairman DSA said that the judges, lawyers and the educated class of the society will have to play a pivotal role in creating awareness among the general masses about their legal rights. He said that the role of the Legal Services Authority was not only to create awareness among the poor, downtrodden, needy, destitute, people living below poverty line but also to provide legal services to the poor, marginalised and weaker sections of society, especially to the people living in far off places, away from the seats of justice and the offices of the legal services institutions. Jang Bhadur Singh Jamwal further said that the aim of the scheme was to provide an inexpensive legal advice, drafting of petitions, notices and replies, applications and other documents of legal importance and also for the resolution of disputes by making the parties to see the reason and thereby prevent disputes to reach courts. In cases where legal services of a higher level are required, the matter can be referred to the legal services Institutions, Jamwal said. It was decided in the meeting that the District and Tehsil Legal Service Authorities Jammu will be organizing series of programmes across the district in order to make people aware about not only their legal rights but also the services they can avail under the Act. The para-legal volunteers, in the meeting, were educated about their role. A well documented visual display on the role of para-legal volunteers was also presented on the occasion. The meeting was also informed that the Legal Aid Clinic was now fully functional in the district court complex, Janipur Jammu and the poor and needy persons can avail the legal services free of cost at any working day. |
