Early Times Report

Srinagar, Mar 1: The rise in violence for Balochistan liberation and escalation in terror strikes across Pakistan forced Pakistani authorities to call off its demand for jammu and Kashmir. The Pakistani establishment, it is learnt, therefore has propounded a peace plan which would shelve the K-issue for ten years in the first stance.
An American senator recently submitted a resolution in US Senate, demanding for the right of Self-Determination for the people of Balochistan. The development was a biggest achievement of the Sardars and Nawabs who fought for liberation of Balochistan from Pakistan.
Pakistan, which is already gripped with sectarian violence, besides combating threat of Al-Qaeda and Taliban militants, who fled from Afghanistan and usually targeted high-profile political figures, thought it proper to give up the demand for Kashmir and preferred to open up new trade relations with India.
In 2006, 657 terrorist attacks, including 41 of a sectarian nature, took place, leaving 907 people dead and 1,543 others injured according to Pak Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS) security report.
In 2007, 1,503 terrorist attacks and clashes, including all the suicide attacks, target killings and assassinations, resulted in 3,448 casualties and 5,353 injuries, according to the PIPS security report.
These casualties figure 128 percent and 491.7 percent higher as compared with 2006 and 2005, respectively.
The report states that Pakistan faced 60 suicide attacks (mostly targeted at security forces) during 2007, which killed at least 770, besides injuring another 1,574 people. PIPS report shows visible increase in suicide attacks after Lal Masjid operation.
In 2008, the country saw 2,148 terrorist attacks, which caused 2,267 fatalities and 4,558 injuries. Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) in its annual report indicated that there were at least 67 suicide attacks across Pakistan killing 973 people and injuring 2,318. Further, a source in the investigation agencies disclosed that the total number of suicide blasts in Pakistan since 2002 rose to 140 (till December 21, 2008) while 56 bombers had struck in 2007.
In 2009, the worst of any year, 2,586 terrorist, insurgent and sectarian-related incidents were reported that killed 3,021 people and injured 7,334, according to the "Pakistan Security Report 2009" published by PIPS.These casualties figure 48 percent higher as compared to 2008. On the other hand, the rate of suicide attacks surged by one third to 87 bombings that killed 1,300 people and injured 3,600.
Terrorist attacks staged in Pakistan have killed over 35,000 people, 5,000 of which are law enforcement personnel, and caused material damage to the Pakistani economy totaling US$67 billion by the IMF and the World Bank.
The developments in Pakistan forced to the authorities to invite the Hurriyat leaders of both the factions to Islamabad for briefing them for peace plan. Barring JKLF's Yasin Malik , Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Shabir Shah, Nayeem Khan, Syed Ali Geelani were invited to Pakistan by the Pakistani high commissioner Shahid Mailk to Pakistan for talks for freezing the Kashmir issue for "good of Pakistan", the sources said. The hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani , who is presently stationed in new delhi also held series of meetings with various Indian leaders including retired bureaucrats, journalists, members of civil society, politicians, lawyers and even MP. Geelani personally went to Senior BJP leader Ram Jethmalani's Akbar Road residence in new delhi to meet the leader.
Geelani even met host of civil society members, former diplomats and army commanders . He also had a meeting with former BJP minister and film actor Shatrughan Sinha soon after Sinha returned from Pakistan visit.
Geelani 's changed stance , according to hardliner Hurriyat leaders, has got blessing of Pakistani establishment besides the jehadi kashmiri leaders based in POK like Syed Salluddin . The sources say that the Hurriyat leaders have been advised to fight assembly elections to be held in 2014 . The moderate Hurriyat leaders, according to the sources , have prepared to join the mainstream kashmir politics by raising the administrative issues like Bijli, Pani and Sadak.
The Hurriyat Chairman announced the reopening of Hurriyat office in New Delhi besides offices in all the districts of the state to develop contacts with the people at grass roots level, the Hurriyat insiders said.
The development, it is learnt, is being watched by the authorities in new delhi. The home ministry officials have already issued instructions to the state police to increase the security of the Hurriyat leaders in jammu and Kashmir .
The authorities would also pass on instructions to the Omar Abdullah government as well to enable the Hurriyat leaders to propagate their agenda of peace after their return from Pakistan in coming months.
