Omar advises separatists talk directly to center | Advocates for making interlocutors report public | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 1 : Advising separatist leaders to enter into direct dialogue process with New Delhi, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, Thursday said dialogue should be held with the one who is in a position to offer some thing. In an exclusive interview with KNS here, Omar said, "There is no harm if Hurriyat leaders are talking to people like Ram Jeth Malani and Ram Vilas Paswan. But aren't in a position to offer separatists anything. When these people were in power, Hurriyat leaders were reluctant to talk to them also." The Chief Minister advised the separatist leadership to enter into a direct dialogue with New Delhi "so that they can achieve something." Advocating for making interlocutors report public, Omar said, "There is a need to hold a debate on the report. The interlocutors talked every section of the society in J&K during their one year exercise and after that presented the report. I have taken up the issue of making the interlocutors report public with the center and will do it in future also." "People of J&K have lot of expectations with the interlocutors report and that is why center shouldn't waste this opportunity," he added. The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction over the cooperation extended by the people in maintaining peace in the state and especially in Kashmir since 2011. He appealed the people to cooperate in maintaining the peace in future also. "In 2010 and before that, people of all walks of life suffered immensely due to unrest. But thankfully since 2011 due to the cooperation of people, situation has changed for good in the state and especially in the Valley. Education and tourism sectors have been the biggest beneficiaries of peace," he told KNS. Asked to comment about rising level of corruption, favoritism and nepotism in the state, Omar said, "Our government has taken several steps to fight against the menace of corruption and for the Accountability Commission has been strengthened. Also Information Commission and Vigilance Commission have been made functional in our government. The RTI Act has been implemented to make the public servants accountable." The Chief Minister lashed out at the opposition Peoples Democratic Party for their "double standards" on corruption. "They (PDP) weren't sincere in raising the issue of corruption in the Assembly. Their motive was to take political mileage out of it," he added. Claiming that there was complete coordination between his National Conference and coalition partner Congress, Omar said, "PDP leader Muzafar Hussain Beigh tried to give impression in the House that only Congress ministers were being targeted for the allegations of corruption while NC ministers are being let off. Fact is that PDP wants to grab power from backdoor but all their efforts will fail." "Who has to be given power and who not all depends on people. Chair isn't somebody's fiefdom, but it is people who decide who should get the power," he told . Asked to comment on Beig's assertions that Chief Minister's institution has been weakened due to the recent developments, Omar said, "I don't need certificate from Beigh. The institution of Chief Minister is very strong." On charges against former R&B Minister G M Saroori, former Education Minister, Peerzada Sayeed and few other ministers, the Chief Minister said, "Investigations are on in Saroori and Peerzada's cases, while allegations against other have been proven wrong in the first instance itself." |
