| Zargar for adopting new paradigm in food processing sector | | | Jammu | Jan 20
Minister for Agriculture and co-operative Abdul Aziz Zargar has underlined the need to adopt a new paradigm of growth in the food-processing sector in Jammu and Kashmir state; adding that this is necessary keeping in view the resources potential of this state as a whole and the various factors in way of development industry, trade and commerce. Inaugurating the day long conference on "Potential of Food Processing in Jammu and Kashmir innovation and Technology" organized jointly by the "Confederation of India Industry" (CII) and government of Jammu and Kashmir, today here the Minister said that Agriculture is the main stay of the economy of the Jammu and Kashmir state, where more than 80 percent of the total population derives its livelihood from the Agriculture sector. He said the state has a great potential for development in the agriculture sector with vast scope of selling up of food processing industries. He stressed for encouraging joint ventures and outsourcing between large corporate houses and industries for this sector in the state and exploring the possibility of providing direct marketing measures for the fruits and vegetable growers. The Minister said that in order to benefit the growers, the government is planning to encourage retail chains to by products directly from formers which would help them in terms of packing, transporting and storage cost. Zargar said that Government is committed to make the state self sufficient in all sectors especially in agriculture production saying that it needs peaceful atmosphere which is imperative for development and prosperity.
