Omar himself sabotaged AFSPA proposal, 'diverted public attention from Haji Yousuf case ': Mehbooba | 'No takers to blame PDP for everything' | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 1: Two days after the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah made a reference in his reply on Governor's speech in the Legislature , blaming PDP for scuttling his 'mission' for partial revocation of the controversial Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act by, leader of the Opposition and Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti today countered the accusations in same tone and tenor and said he was himself responsible for sabotaging the proposal and that he did it with a 'motive'. While Omar had contended that PDP scuttled it by "making statements" that the state government should take army on board, Mehbooba countered with similar political punch alleging that CM did it to divert the attention of people from the Haji Yousuf 'murder'. Speaking to media persons outside the Assembly Hall today Mehbooba alleged that Omar was never serious about this proposal "Had he been so he would not have first made the announcement and later diluted it whatever followed the controversy…", Mehbooba said contending that Omar being head of the Unified command could have taken the decision by himself without trumpeting it for publicity. "He raked up the matter only to divert attention from the 'murder' of National Conference worker Haji Yusuf and other burning issues like failure to take measures to deal with corruption……all these have been institutionalized under the NC led government", the PDP chief alleged. He succeeded in his mission of diverting the attention, she observed. Commenting on charges of corruption against this government ,Mehbooba said, "Omar Abdullah appears to be too helpless and weak….only a weak person would contend what he is saying…he looks helpless for he is himself facing such charges …..it looks strange that he is blaming PDP for everything that goes wrong in the state", the PDP chief said. "It only means that we are so powerful …….it is ironical that CM says on everything that derails that it is the PDP that is responsible for it……. There can be no taker's of what he says", she said. Mehbooba Mufti further said everyone including her party knows that revocation of AFSPA is a major issue before Jammu and Kashmir. It has to happen today or tomorrow but the way NC tried to project and present is something unacceptable and on the top of it he is blaming PDP for having scuttled it. " Not only we are favouring it, even the Working Groups constituted by central government have opined about its removal. The interlocutors appointed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh too have expressed their view about softening or revoking the Act, ", she said, contending that PDP is pressing hard for it for a long time. |
