Shopian rocked Assembly but stays quiet for missing Paddar girls
3/2/2012 12:29:41 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 1: Even after about two-year, there is no trace of two girls who went missing from Paddar in Kishtwar district in July 2010. The police believed that they most probably have jumped into the river. But till now their bodies haven't been recovered.
They investigation in this regard is in strong contrast to Shopian case, which not only put the valley in turmoil but also ensured a CBI inquiry .
Majlis Mushawarat, spearheaded the campaign of two missing women and put the government in dock for quite sometime.
The case was investigated and it was established by the agency that girls were neither raped nor murdered. The agency filed a chargesheet against 13 people - six doctors, five lawyers and two civilians - for allegedly fabricating evidence and misleading people.
The issue had rocked Assembly session in 2009 as it was raised vocally by PDP
The matter has not even been taken raised in the Assembly. NC MLA Sajjad Ahmad Kitchloo represents Kishtwar. Even BJP and Congress which have a strong presence in the district have not raised the issue in any of the Session in the last two-year.
Sapna and Sangeeta, resident of Gulabhgarh Padder, were picked up by police when they were sitting along their cousins on the banks of river Chanderbhaga after attending their classes.
It is being alleged that girls were ill-treated in the police station and faced with humiliation of being taken to police station they jumped into the river.
Since then parents have been pleading with the local police to trace their girls. But since then no effort has been made.
The incident reflects how seriously far off areas especially of the Jammu region are taken by the government and by political parties.
Since, the region is not politically as active as Kashmir valley, the incident didn't receive as much attention it demanded. As the incident didn't figure much in the national media, in the absence of hue and cry, it didn't get into the notice of Human Rights Commission or National Women Commission.
The people of the area have demanded that issue shouldn't only be raised in the Assembly vociferously but a CBI inquiry should also be ordered.
