Another tube well which supplies water to the city area and the Peer Kho tube-well pumping capacity has come down to 15,000 gallons per hour as against 25,000 gallons. A source, however, gave the good news. According to him the situation is not that alarming and ground water sources are being gradually being recharged. "Many tubewell had dried up or are facing leakage due to unplanned usage, but it has now improved", he said. Expertys ascribe the reasons to increased population A few decades ago, the population of the Jammu city was about 4-5 lakhs but now it has risen to 11 lakhs. The increased need is difficult meet. Locals have blamed ineffective distribution system.
