Economic Survey paints grim picture of J-K school infrastructure | | | early times report Jammu, Mar 2: With the expansion in educational facilities the number of literates in the state has increased considerably but the recent Economic survey report for the year 2011-12 say that more than three thousand primary schools, 770 middle schools, 51 High schools and 4 Higher secondary schools are without government owned buildings. The survey report says that the newly upgraded institutions i.e 450 High schools and 243 Higher secondary schools have deficient accommodation. Painting a grim picture of the school infrastructure the report says that 948 primary schol buildings are in dilapidated condition, 666 Upper middle schools are without own buildings,, 7903 primary schools lack drinking water/toilet facility and 1440 middle schools lack drinking water/toilet facility. The scenario is no different in the secondary education segement as well. According to the survey report 51 govt high schools are still functioning in rented buildings, 231 High schools ack drinking water/toilet facility and 84 higher secondary schools lack drinking water/toilet facility. To provide separate kitchen sheds to the schools to prepare mid day meals the govt has proposed to construct 4380 kitchen cum stores under the scheme and proposal has been sent to the union govt for central assistance. |
