National environment awareness campaign on forests held

Kathua, Mar 2: Society for Development & Training Kathua organized a National Environment Awareness Campaign on the theme of Forests Sustainable Livelihood at Govt. Higher Secondary School Boys Kathua Sponsored by WWF- India, J&K New University Campus Jammu. Chief Education Officer Kuldeep Kumar Gupta was the Chief Guest on the occasion DEPO Dhananter Singh & Sunita Khajuria, Principal GHSS (boys) Kathua was the guest of honours. SHO Kathua Bhushan Manhas also attended the programme.
On the occasion a painting competition was held along with the seminar on the topic Forests for Sustainable Livelihood in which students from various schools participated and spoke on the importance of forests in the maintenance of sustainable development. The participants spoke at length on usefulness of the forests in the daily lives as a major source of life supporting system and maintaining ecological balance and environmental balance.
While speaking on the occasion the chief guest said that it is best occasion to educate the young minds about the importance of disseminating information on such a useful topic and lauded the efforts of NGO and said that this model should be further propagated to create awareness among the students.
He also exhorted upon the participating units to use the money judicially and bring a change in the total environment of the institutions along with the society in general. He extended his full support in such initiative as it makes useful contribution in society. Baryam Munday, secretary, Society for Development & Training Kathua, presented vote of thanks and extended his full support to future programmes being initiated. Contribution cheques were also distributed to the participating Eco Clubs operating under the National Environment Awareness Campaign. The winners of the debate competition were Urja Singh, Raj Kumar and Sawan Kumar as second and Ritika Sharma and Pooja Rani as third winner. The winners of painting competition include Heena as first, Manisha Sharma as second and Ashish as third.
The Jury members included Aruna Sharma, SP Singh and Vijaya Thakur.
