Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 3: Not to speak of providing jobs to unemployed youth in the state whose number has crossed over five lakh and claims of government regarding Sher-I-Kashmir Employment Policy, which has already come to a severe criticism from the from opposition parties, the state government has started a process of terminating the in service temporary employees appointed under National Youth Corps (NYC).
The government through a recent order has issued directives to terminate over 7000 workers by March 31 this year engaged under NYC a centrally sponsored scheme in different departments in the state two years back. This notification has generated a lot of resentment among the public in general and the youth as well as their family members in particular.
Hundreds of youth working under the NYK scheme resorted to a protest demonstration in front of Press Club here and tried to take out a rally to block the Dogra Chowk. However police foiled their bid and took 14 activists NYC Association under preventive custody. Police resorted to lathicharge on the protesters in which 50 people were injured. They were taken to Nawabad Police Station and were later released in the evening.
The irate workers raising slogans in support of their demands warned to intensify agitation in case the demand was not settled and the workers were not regularized. With pla-cards and banners in their hands they raised slogans against the government, which they alleged was callous towards the youth.
``We have left colleges to join service and our family members had pinned high hopes in us'', said Riyaz one of the protestor. He said ``our dreams have now shattered with government issuing termination orders for us and this will not be tolerated any more. We are ready to give any sacrifice but will not allow our termination from the service'', he added.
``We are ready to face lathis but will continue dharna said Seema another protestor''. ``We were deployed in various government offices and after working for complete two years the government is now going to terminate our services which will not be tolerated at any cost. This is an injustice with us and we will fight it till our last breath'' she added.
She said on the one hand the number of unemployed youth is already increasing in the state and on the other the government was terminating the thousands of workers already engaged under various centrally sponsored schemes. This way the people will create a hue and cry in the state, she added.
