PSG Act to address societal renaissance: Rana | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 3: "The Nation is passing through a phase of societal renaissance and so there is a need to address the society's concern", said Devender Singh Rana Political Advisor to Chief Minister while addressing the students of Jammu University. He said that society's concerns can only be addressed by a robust institutional mechanism backed by a sound legal framework. The Political Advisor said the Omar Abdullah led coalition government in the state is committed to empower the people and make governance more vibrant, responsive, transparent and accountable. He said that the legislations like the Public Services Guarantee Act along with the State Accountability Commission Act, Right to Information Act and the State Vigilance Commission Act are visionary initiatives of Omar Abdullah to ensure transparency and to guarantee delivery of public services to the people in a time bound manner. He said Public Services Guarantee Act touches the daily lives of the people and ensures accountability and timely delivery of day to day services. Addressing the students of Jammu University in a jam-packed Seminar Hall of the MCA Department here today Rana said "any government functionary showing any laxity or delay in time line delivery of services to the people is liable to a fine and punishment while the affected individual would be compensated for this omission by the government functionary out of the fine imposed on the erring official". Underlining the significance of youth in this stupendous task of eradicating ills plaguing the society, Rana said that youth are an engine of change and can play a vital role in bringing about a positive change in the society and so they have to come forward to accomplish this responsibility of theirs to the society. Lauding the efforts of the students for organizing such awareness seminar to educate their fellow students about the PSG Act, Prof Mohal Paul Singh Isher Vice Chancellor University of Jammu said that the students have a larger role to play in making the society corruption free and acting as in instrument of change. Prominent among those who addressed the gathering included Surinder Singh Bunty, Provincial President J&K YNC, Jammu University faculty member Ranjeet Kalra and YNC leaders Iqbal Wani. Among others who were present on the occasion included Prof. J.P.
