RTI Movement hails HC decision for fees reduction under J&K RTI Rules | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 4 : J&K RTI Movement has expressed its gratitude towards the judiciary for coming to the relief of people of Jammu & Kashmir state by pronouncing a judgment wherein the J&K Government has been directed to reduce the application and photocopying fees from Rs 50 to Rs 10 (for RTI application) and Rs 10 to Rs 2 (for Xerox charges A3 , A4 paper) respectively. In a statement Convener of J&K RTI Movement Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat while hailing the decision of the Division Bench of J&K High Court said that the decision of High Court is a welcome step and a long pending demand of not only the RTI activists of state but it was a demand of common citizen of Jammu & Kashmir who had to pay five times more fees than what is being charged under central RTI Act 2005. The State Government should have voluntarily reduced the fees but it was not done in spite of the repeated assurances from the Government said Dr Sheikh Ghulam Rasool a senior RTI activist and co founder of J&K RTI Movement. We now hope that J&K Government will implement this order in letter and spirit and it is impressed upon the Government that RTI awareness programmes must be undertaken by them in nook and corner of J&K as the Government is bound to create such awareness programmes under section 23 of J&K RTI Act. The Government should also make voluntarily disclosure enshrined under section 4 (1) (b) of J&K RTI Act wherein all the public authorities have to voluntarily and pro actively display the details about its activities , funds utilization , works undertaken etc the statement added |
