MC elections likely to get corkscrewed into the controversy: Panthers
3/4/2012 10:49:57 PM
Early Times Report

jammu, Mar 4: Young Panthers alleged that once again J&K NC-Congress led coalition government treated step-motherly with Jammu province by increasing 12 Municipal Committees in Kashmir and 4 Municipal Committees for Jammu.
Also wards of Srinagar Municipal Corporation are raised from 65 to 75 whereas those of Jammu Municipal Corporation remain unchanged 71.
Addressing the media persons in the press conference here at party head quarters, Pushvinder Singh Manhas (sr. vice-president Young Panthers and in-charge NPSU) said that the Municipal Corporation Elections of the state once again are likely to get corkscrewed into the controversy.
He said that irregularities apart in the voter list, the other lacunae that exist in the overall arrangement of the system are so porous and deranged that the organizations and different agencies attached in the execution of the voting process too have turned scary on government's announcement of holding elections in the month of April.
He said that according to the official site of the SMC and JMC there are many of wards in SMC which have area approximately 0.2 to 0.5 square km and population shown in these wards is 18000 to 20000 whereas in JMC the population of ward numbers 10 to 29 is shown exactly 7438 each which seems a big blunder on the part of government.
He further said that there are many wards which do not fulfill the requirements of the Section 6 Sub-section (a) of J&K Municipal Corporation Act, 2000. There are many other loopholes that are likely to remain unplugged would be the issue of rotational charges of the wards vis-à-vis their reserved category norms mentioned in Section 10-A of Municipal Corporation Act, 2000.
Manhas appealed Chief Election Commissioner of J&K to look into the matter and until and unless these anomalies are removed elections for municipality should be postponed. He also told media persons that NPP will hold a strong protest demonstration on 5th of March, 2012 at 12:00 Noon outside the office of Chief Election Commissioner against the said anomalies and irregularities at mass level in Municipal Corporations.
Others who were present on the occasion include Gunwant Singh, S. K S Bedi, Partap Singh Jamwal, Ram Sharma, Ankush Khajuria, Atul Soodan, etc.
