Opposition, treasury benches trade charges over Srinagar "neglect" | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Marc5; Treasury benches including Ali Mohammad Sagar, Law and Parliamentary Affairs minister and PDP legislators Monday exchanged charges of neglect of Srinagar city during Question Hour when A.R. Veeri raised Mehbooba Mufti's question and alleged that major initiatives taken by Mufti Mahammad Sayeed led coalition government which include beautification of river Jhelum, construction of flyovers, development of Eidgah have been shelved by the present dispensation. Veeri said that Jahangir Chowk-Rambagh flyover project was not only conceived during Mufti's regime but funding by Asian Development Bank was also made available, however, present regime which claims to be the "owner of Srinagar city" has failed to implement this project. Likewise, Veeri said, beautification of river Jhelum from Zero Bridge right up to Chatabal Waer was taken in hands as ambitious project by PDP led coalition government but unfortunately this project too was left halfway. "Development of Eidgah with all civic facilities was started during our period but has been shelved by this government" added Veeri. While Veeri was making his point Mubarak Gul rose from the chair and started shouting at the opposition benches which irked PDP MLAs who left their seats and shouted back loudly alleging that the capital city has been ruined by the present dispensation and in the name of Srinagar city they were just making hollow slogans. "You are drawing comparison between three years of ours and thirty years of yours but let me tell you what we did for the development of Srinagar during our three years rule, your thirty years are no match" Sayeed Basharat Bukhari told the treasury benches. This irritated A.M. Sagar saying, "pachees feet ka flyover banaya" "Veeri should tender an apology in the House for neglect of Srinagar city during their period" said Sagar. However in the middle of din PDP legislators including Muzaffar Hussain Baigh staged a brief walkout from the House in protest. |
