JKP lifts 3rd Governor’s golf championship

JAMMU, JAN 21
Jammu and Kashmir Police today lifted the 3rd Governor’s Golf Cup at a tournament played at sprawling and lush green BSF Golf Course at Paloura here.
Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) S. K. Sinha presented the trophies at a glittering function amidst golfers and congratulated the Jammu and Kashmir Police for winning the cup.
He recalled his college days when in a sports event three generations of his family participated-his grandfather referee, his father captaining the old boys and his brother heading the college team. Similarly, he said, in today’s tournament too it was like a family playing the game. Golf, he said, promotes camaraderie among the players and strengthens the bonds of harmony and brotherhood.
Striking personal chord with the game, he said he had spent all his life in bunkers and in today’s game he made it to golfers bunkers as well.
Governor presented trophies to Comdt. M. S. Dev for longest drive, Col. A. Puri for closest to pin, A. G. Malik for maximum birdies, S. Katoch for gross runner up, Sarabjit Kumar Sharma for being net winner and Raja Aijaz Ali for gross winner up.
Director General of Police Mr. Gopal Sharma presented mementos to the Governor and Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad as token of affection from all ranks of Jammu and Kashmir Police, the organizers of the tournament.
Director General of Police said that alongside achieving excellence in policing, Jammu and Kashmir Police has been focussing on sports.
Earlier, Governor, Chief Minister and Director General of Police gave start to the tournament by tee-off.
About the tournament, Additional Director General of Police Armed Mr. P. S. Gill said that the Governor’s Cup has emerged as the prestigious winter sports event over the years. He hoped that the championship will inspire the players to participate in a big way in coming years.
In all, 36 golfers from the army, central police organizations and Jammu and Kashmir participated in the tournament.
