Traffic paralysed for more than six hours on the power station issue

RAJOURI , Mar 5 : People of Peeri and Rehan area held a massive protest in the Mandargala area of Rajouri and paralysed traffic for about six hours on the busy road from Rajouri to Budhal, Bakori, Koteranka and Sungri Chasana.
They were protesting on a issue of construction site for a power house to be constructed in the area.
As per sources, hundreds of people residing in the Peeri , Rehan and nearby villages gathered on the busy Mandargala Chowk and suspended traffic and sat on dharna. These people shouted slogans against the officials of PDD department and concerned government agencies along with local MLA.
Along with private vehicles a large number of army vehicles and army convoy vehicles also stood in the midway and within no time a big queue of vehicles emerged there. Soon police party from P/S Kandi reached there and tried to pacified the protest but all in vain and people intensified their protest with high slogans and not allowing even a single vehicle to pass.
As per sources a minor scuffle also happened between some protestors and a tempo driver but police interfered in it and dispersed the scuffle.
After about a long and intense protest of more than five hours officials from district administration headed by Deputy Commissioner GA Khwaja reached the spot and talked with the protestors after which people lifted up their protest.
Giving a detailed account of this massive protest, sarpanch of local panchayat, Neeraj Sharma who was also heading this protest said that nearly about 700 people belonging to five panchayats were involved in placing this massive protest and tainted role of concerned government authorities and local MLA Ch. Zulfkar Ali has enforced them to come on road. He said that few months back government sanctioned a power station in the area of Peeri in order to bring betterment in the power supply to the area.
After sanction a team of government authorities particularly of PDD visited the spot and identified some places out of which one was to be selected for construction of power station.
But now local MLA Zulfkar Ali has played political game in the issue and under his pressure the construction work of this power station has been initiated in Parori area. However after assurance by DC Rajouri to construct this power project keeping in view the benefit of the whole belt and a central place will be selected.
