Sham launches 'Clean Jammu- Green Jammu' drive at SRML HSS

JAMMU, Mar 5: Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture Sham Lal Sharma today launched "Clean Jammu- Green Jammu" plantation drive from Government Sri Ranbir Higher Secondary School, Parade by planting a sapling of Ashoka Tree in the school premises.
The Minister stressed upon the students to involve their pear groups and elders, besides society at large to take part in plantation drive and ensure that every individual may plant at least one tree during current season. He said that only a green Jammu and Kashmir can ensure a prosperity of its people adding that the green gold is the most precious possession of the general populace of the state.
Sharma directed the Director Horticulture to arrange medicinal plants for each college and school of Jammu Division for plantation during this season's plantation drive.
The Minister stressed upon the teaching fraternity to imbibe moral values among the students side by side the routine education to grow as good human beings and an asset for the society. He also called for maintaining the standard of education in the schools to enable the students to compete at national and international levels.
The Minister said that the government is contemplating to restore the pristine glory of this 140 year old school and make it a heritage education centre. He said that an amount of Rs 18.89 lakhs are being provided to the school for maintenance and up gradation of ground and parks of the school, besides other restoration works.
On the occasion the Principal of the School H.D Qureshi said that the school is one of the oldest institutions of Jammu and Kashmir having 140 years history at its back and the premises of SRML is full of lush green lawns and parks with century old trees of different species having great medicinal value.
Among others Director Horticulture, Director Floriculture, Chief Medical Officer, Jammu, staff and students, besides a large number of prominent citizens were present on the occasion.
