Jammu, Mar 6 : For the second consecutive day today, Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly witnessed a pandemonium during the Question Hour.
As soon as the legislature met here today all opposition legislators cutting across the party lines rose up to condemn what they termed "brute use of force" on striking Safai Karamchairies, Agriculture technocrats and HomeGguards by the state. Opposition members shouted "lathi dande ki sarkar - hai hai" "lathi aur dande ke begair iss sarkar ke paas kuch nahi hai". PDP MLAs supported by BJP and Panthers party legislators and independent MLA Engineer Ab. Rashid all stood up and tried to make their respective points known. While Engineer Rashid, Balwant Singh Mankotia, Ashwini Kumar and Ashok Khajuria, amid din raised their issues, PDP legislators Ab. Rehman Veeri and Ab. Haq Khan were repeatedly trying to call the attention of the speaker towards them for raising "issues of public interest".
However NPP legislator Harshdev Singh took the lead by shouting "sarkar yeh samajti haiki har samasiya ka hallathi hai". "Even boys and girls were not speared" cried Harshdev. Ab Haq Khan of PDP, on this, shouted at speaker saying, "there are other members in the House and not only the four MLAs sitting in the front row."
Ab. Rehman Veeri, however quickly made his point saying, "Agriculture graduates and technocrats are on dharna, last year government entered into an agreement with them which was unfortunately not honoured by the government.
They should be engaged on the pattern of Rehbar-e-Taleem and Rehbar-e-Zirat". On the other hand, Veeri said, National Youth Volunteers are also agitating, their grievances should be redressed. Jugal Kishore of BJP said that Home Guards and Safai Karamcharies are being beaten for raising their voice against the official apathy.
Ashwini Kumar said that Safai Karamcharies were on strike for last 20 days and Jammu city has turned into a garbage dump but the government is unmoved. BJP and NPP latter staged a walkout from the House to protest against police resorting to baton charge to disperse the jobless youth protesting in Jammu. Independent MLA Engineer Rashid while condemning in strong words the remarks passed by VHP leader Parveen Tagoria at Rajouri the other day, said, "Syed Ali Geelani was not allowed to offer Friday prayers for last two years fearing law and order problem, how Parveen Tagodia was allowed to enter the state and pass anti-Muslim remarks, why he was not arrested for hurting the religious sentiments of the Muslim community." Pertinently, Togadia had recently visited Rajouri district and had given an inflammatory speech.
"This is a highly condemnable act and the House should unequivocally condemn Tagodia for making anti Muslim remarks with reference to Mecca Masjid which could communalise the situation in the state.
Hearing from Engineer Rashid Javaid Mustafa Mir of PDP stood up angrily saying, "I would like to call the attention of the House that if somebody like Tagodia hurts the religious sentiment of the Muslims, he should be punished. If the government fails to do so, it has no right to continue in office.
Chowdary Zulfikar of PDP while making his point said that Tagodia's remarks are highly condemnable, he should not be allowed to destroy the communal harmony and secular fabric of the state which has been maintained over the decades despite all odds.
However only one MLA from treasury benches Ajaz Jan representing Poonch constituency condemned Tagodia saying that Poonch and Rajouri are known for religious harmony and Tagodia has made an attempt to destroy it, he should be arrested. However normal business resumed soon and opposition participated in Question Hour.
