Multi purpose sports stadium at Katra in offing

Jammu, Mar 6: Katra, soon is going to get a latest and multi purpose sports stadium as its foundation stone was marked out and the stadium will be constructed by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board at an estimated cost of Rs 11 crore within a period of two years.
The stadium with a capacity of 4,000 spectators will have provisions, including cricket, football and hockey grounds, volleyball court, squash court, changing rooms and parking space for 225 cars.
Rajesh Sharma, a football player living in Katra said, "I and my team always had to go to the near by stations like Jammu to practice for big matches and because of that our time plus our coaching was not done in a proper manner as well".
The officials said, "The local youth would get the requisite facilities for participating in various sports activities. They even took a review meeting of the ongoing development projects of the shrine board to improve augmentation of water and power supply, sanitation, new accommodation, locker and food catering facilities.
The Principal Secretary of the shrine board, RK Goyal said, "We are asked for speedy completion of two multi-storied buildings, Ashirwad Complex at Katra with 480 beds capacity and Parvati Bhawan at the shrine with a capacity of around 150 beds, besides a 172-bedded dormitory complex at Adhkuwari.
And we also have reviewed the progress on the Katra-Banganga road".
He further added, "There are also other schemes which are taken under review including the installation of four solar water-heating systems and two solar power plants and establishment of a mule dung-based biogas plant".
Another associate officer Praveen Gupta said, "Its construction, would give a boost to pilgrim tourism.
The Centre also comprises of an auditorium with a seating capacity of 460 persons, a library, an Amphitheatre, exhibition halls, audio-visual room, conference halls, meditation hall, prayer hall, art and craft exhibition areas, prayer rooms, food station, guest rooms and dormitories".
The local public is really happy with this initiative and express gratitude to the Governor, especially the sports fraternity, for setting in motion the process of the construction of the stadium.
The officials working there also thanked Sports Minister RS Chib for taking a keen interest in getting the proposal of the stadium cleared.
The stadium would prove a boon to budding sportspersons of the district and the surrounding areas.
