Dogri Sanstha feliciate Taing

Jammu, Mar 6: Dogri Sanstha honoured M.Y. Taing, a renowned scholar and writer of outstanding caliber on his elevation to the position of Dy. Chairman of the Legislative Council of J&K.
The function was held at K L Sehgal Hall and was presided over by veteran journalist and intellectual Balraj Puri.
Taing was presented with a memento and a shawl on behalf of Dogri Sanstha.
Senior Dogri writer Nilamber Dev Sharma, who was the main speaker on the occasion, introduced different facets of all the multi-dimensional personality of Mr. Taing.
He said his command over the art of oration and discussion is widely acclaimed. He is adored for his attractive style of prose writing both in Urdu and Kashmiri. He was conferred with Sahitya Akademi award in Kashmiri and was later awarded Padam Shree for his outstanding contribution to literature and culture. Sharma informed the audience that Taing had the longest tenure as Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. He also narrated many anecdotes which showed his close association with Taing as well as illustrated many qualities of Taing's head and heart.
He said though Taing joined politics at a later stage but he always retained his interest in writing and other scholarly pursuits. Balraj Puri delivering his presidential speech dwelled on wide range of achievements of Taing which include journalism, literary writing, editing, oration and research in history etc. He said Taing left his strong imprint wherever and in whatever area he worked. In particular he emphasized on the secular credential and broad outlook of Taing. Taing while speaking on the occasion said that he holds Dogri Sanstha, the oldest of all literary and cultural organization of the State, in highest esteem and being honoured by Sanstha is something which he will cherish the most. He narrated his experiences with veteran Dogri writers like Ram Nath Shastri, Dinu Bhai Pant, Kehri Singh Madhukar and Ved Pal Deep. He said that he learned a lot from all these stalwarts. Earlier in his welcome address, Lalit Magotra, President of Dogri Santha, said that Taing represents writers fraternity of the State and his elevation to the post of Deputy Chairman of Legislative Council is a matter of pride for whole of the fraternity. He said that Legislative council was envisaged to be a body representing the intellectuals, scholars, writers, academicians and experts drawn from all walks of life and all regions of the State to contribute to the policy matters through their vision.
Taing's occupying the position of Deputy Chairman, is therefore most appropriate and a step in the right direction.
Veena Gupta, general secretary of Dogri Sanstha who conducted the programme also thanked the audience which included Ayaz Rasool Nazki, Jitendra Udhampuri, Khalid Hussain, Pradyuman Singh Jindrahia, Shashi Pathania, Lalit Gupta, Savita Bakshi, Chattrapal, Shrivatsa and many other prominent citizens and scholars.
