| State fencing team secures second position in National Championship | | | JAMMU JAN 21 Jammu and Kashmir Fencing Boys team secured second spot in the 17th senior National Fencing Championship held at Banglore recently as announced by M.J Sharma, President J&K Fencing Association here in a interaction with Media Persons at Press Club. JK Fencing Team with 21 points clinched the second place whereas Manipur with 46 points in the championship remained as winner. Karnataka took the third spot with 14 points. Those who brought laurels for state were Rashid Ahmed, Ujbal Gupta, Maninder Singh, and Lucky Singh under Sabre, Foil and E.Pee category. Girls Team stood 5th in the championship. There are 25 teams participating in the championship from all over country. Chotu Lal, Coach of the team, highlighted the achievements of Fencing team and the problems being faced by the players during the practice session. He said that our players are performing regularly well at national level during the last 2-3 years but due to lack of facilities we are not up to the mark. While speaking Sharma, appreciated the performance of players and announced that players will be honored by cash prize by the association and appealed the secretary sports council and state Government to honored these players who brought laurels for state. He said that we hoped our team wins more medals in the forth coming National Games at Guwhati from 7th of Feb 2007. Ravinder Gupta, Secretary sports council honored the players by medals and assured that every sort of help will be provided to players. Others who were present on the occasion were U.S Rahi, Ved Sharma, Krishan Dev and Rachna.
