Child Labour: A Social Stigma
( Bachpan cheenie Bachuu sai aur Desh sai uski Taqat)
Touseef Iqbal Butt3/7/2012 8:17:06 PM

The problem of Child labour exploitation is a major challenge to the process of developing countries.Childern works at the cost of their right of education which leaves them permanently trapped in the poverty cycle, sadly without the education and literacy required for better- paying jobs. As every nation consider child as a backbone of nation, nation builder and so on but looks good only these words in books unfortunately not in practical grounds. Since children's have been exploited by the society, Child Labour is a stigma on society. This is particularly serious in India as it tops the list with the highest number of child laborers in the world. The 2001 census of India estimated the total number of child labour, aged 5-14, to be at 17 million. Out of the 12.06 million, 0.12 engages in hazardous job. Child labour is estimated to be a large as 60 million in India as many childrens are Hidden Workers working in homes or in the underground economy and that is such economy which makes them handicapped forever. We Indians are lacking the super power in present and for future.
The past was whateverso, but not good. The poverty is on the peak.childerns are working in the Dhabbas, industries, Hotels, in construction works illegally. The educational standard of nation is decreasing. We have not suppose to make the estimation of national literacy rate in term of taking census of few literate families, states, societies but we have to checkout the educational percentage from each and every corner of India.
Child labour no doubt, in a long run, becoming the phenomenon which evolves both social and an economic problem as economic disparities widen between poor and educational backward states and that of the faster-growing states. India perhaps has the highest number of laborers in the world less than 14 year of age. There are several causes behind why the parents let their wards to work outside the home or let them to live away from home? Reasons are often associated with Poverty, keeping up the large size family subsistence and inadequate public education standard.
Child labour is not a new concept which I have stated in any case. Many sociologists and economists researched on this social stigma. Although the constitution of India guarantees free and compulsory education between the ages of 6 to 14.child labour is prevalent in almost in all informal sectors of economy.
Many Indian families send their children to work, with some living away from the home.
The worst form of child labor would probably be Bounded Labour. It refers to children who are sold by their parents for money or to pay off debts and even for a loan. The ugly face of social system in which child become the victim of uneven work at an early age of life. It makes the long run employee-slave relationship .like this labour is practiced widely across many parts of rural labour and across multiple industries.
The problem of child labour continues to pose a challenge before the country. Government has taken various pro-active measures to tackle this growing menace. Child labour issue in India is a Human Right issue for the whole world. It is a social stigma that should be eradicated and keep a strong lawful command on it .It is also the responsibility of the citizen of this nation to look after this social evil and sociologists ,economists and other philosophers should make a strategy against this social stigmatic evil.
