Govt identifies 16,697 MW of hydro power potential | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 9 : The Jammu and Kashmir government has identified 16,697 MW of hydro power potential for harnessing in the state. In a written reply to the question of PDP (Peoples Democratic Party) member Zulfikar Ali in Legislative Assembly today, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that estimated hydro power potential in the state is 20,000 MW, out of which about 16,697 MW have been identified for harnessing. A total potential of 2,457.96 MW has been harnessed so far which comprises of 760.46 MW in the state sector, 1,680 MW in the central sector and 17.5 MW in the private sector, he said. The state is committed to harness the available potential in a phased manner as per availability of resources, Abdullah said adding 451.85 MW in the state sector, 659 MW in the central sector and 923 MW in the private sector are under execution. He further said that 2626.50 MW in the state sector, 2120 MW in joint venture and 172 MW in the private sector are also planned for execution. Abdullah said that T&D losses for the years 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 were of the order of 63.10 per cent, 63.0 per cent and 62.12 per cent. The department has initiated a number of measures to reduce T&D losses, he said. |
