J&K has 23,893 SPOs: Omar | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 9 : The Jammu and Kashmir government today said there are 23,893 Special Police Officers in the state. In a written reply to JKNPP member Harshdev Singh, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah told the state legislative assembly that 23,893 SPOs are in the state, of which 15,269 are in Jammu zone while 8424 are in Kashmir valley. Omar said an honorarium of Rs 3,000 per month is paid to these officials currently and a proposal for enhancing it to Rs 5,000 per month has been submitted to the Union Home Ministry and their concurrence on it is awaited. The CM said there is no proposal for any honorarium to the volunteers working in Village Defence Committees (VDCs). Omar said 15 per cent of vacancies in police department have been reserved for SPOs and the government has formulated a comprehensive policy for recruitment of these officials on operational grounds and excellence in sports. SPOs who have crossed the upper age limit of 28 years can also apply for recruitment of constables till they attain the age of 37 years, he said. Omar said 571 SPOs have been regularised on operational grounds and 546 SPOs have been selected as constables through recruitment board. Meanwhile, Sports Minister R S Chib informed the legislative council that 45,426 Rehbar-e-Taleem teachers have been engaged in the state since the inception of the scheme in 2004. Replying to a question of member Jahangir Hussain Mir, Chib, who was speaking on the behalf of education minister, said 25,054 of these teachers have been regularised and the proposal for enhancement of their honorarium has been submitted to State Finance Department for consideration. |
