Pandit leaders berate non- implementation of PM's package | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 9: Leaders of various Kashmiri displaced people have expressed concern over the inordinate delay on the part of the state and the central Governments in implementing fully Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh's employment package for the displaced youths. Leaders, including Kuldeep Raina from Panun Kashmir, HL Chatha of All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference and HN Jattu of All Indian Kashmiri Pandit Conference have stated that the Under the Prime Minister's employment package 6,000 posts had to be created for the Kashmiri Pandit educated unemployed youth but till date not more than 2,000 youths have been given job in Kashmir. They explained that under the package wages for 3,000 posts had to be paid by the centre and the remaining 3,000 posts were to be kept in the state sector. They added that the state Government filled posts only under the central sector and conveyed to the Government of India that since the financial position was not favourable the remaining 3,000 posts to be brought under the central sector. The Pandit leaders decried silence of the state Government on the issue. They said that though the Minister for Revenue and Relief, Raman Bhalla had written to the central Government requesting it to accept the demand for bearing the wage bill for all the 6,000 posts. Hitherto there has been no response despite the fact that Bhalla's communication had been received by the central Government six months ago. These leaders criticized Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, for his failure to raise the issue with the Prime Minister. They said Omar Abdullah seems to be more concer ned about the withdrawal of the AFSPA than about the welfare of the people of the state. The Pandit leaders wanted the Government to make a statement on the matter on the floor of the state Assembly because the Government has not touched the issue in the budget proposals which the Finance Minister, Abdul Rahim Rather, presented in the Assembly a few days ago. They also wanted the Chief Minister to take up personally with the Prime Minister "our demand for increase in cash incentive which has been pending before the Government of India. They said Bhalla had sent a letter to the PMO on the issue but unless Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah intervened possibility for conceding a genuine demand of Pandits seem to be quite bleak. |
