Balanced gender social structure is not flourishing | | BY KHUSHWANT S RANIAL | 3/9/2012 10:51:30 PM |
| It is general notion floating in air that times have changed and we are better accommodating our soft gender in the ever changing society but apparently the conception and claim may be different ,in reality, it does not look so when we look at the records of NCRB of the year 2009. Such startling figure appears mere a hoax call and cry .The fact file of the NCRB 2009 shows that as many as 21329 rapes,25471 Kidnapping and abduction of women,38711 cases of molestation, 11009 cases of sexual harassment ,48 cases of importation of girls and women, 8383 cases of dowry death ,totalling nearly 75299 cases of different nature of crimes against have been surfaced and notices and what about those which have not been reported and got buried under the debris of dust bearing all the pains of one's helplessness and lack of approach to seek lawful justice . In a society that is becoming increasingly promiscuous, the conflict between our traditional values and new found mores hurts more than the fairer sex. On one hand we claim to lend them empowerment to scale higher along with male counterpart in different fields of the life but seeing the amount of atrocities committed upon them in different forms almost daily in the public life itself reflects the height of our undue care and ill projected respect for them in our minds . It appears rape has become a norm in our country and the hapless victim survive with the scars throughout her life carrying the burden of her helplessness and the rapists move freely undeterred after getting scot free unpunished. Those who have been entrusted to do justice and maintain law and order instead of booking the culprits very often found indulging in blaming the victim, shattering their hopes to live with honour. They hold the argument that women alone are all responsible for her existing woes. Why such sort of opinion is held in the India and Asian parts of the world and why not in the European as well as in the Western part of the world. Are we still in the learning stage or living in the primitive era? The Noida and Kolkata rape cases in India are recent glaring examples of defiance of law by those who are supposed to protect it. It was thought that with the spread of co-education system ,there shall be seen a decline in the perpetuation of women harassment in the public places but things have not been materialised which means only option left behind is to adopt to stringent measure like castration of the rapists to place a check on the forced sexual acts. As per the reports of the NCRB 2009, around 22000 rape cases have been reported across India which is not a matter of pride and is a sheer violation of the human rights. Until the rape graph does not decline to lowest ebb, it will remain an elusive dream of increasing the sex -ratio which is shrinking day by day despite government plausible endeavours. Ours endeavours to improve the plight of women folk by celebrating women's Day every year on 7th March has not seen much sea change as conceived and desired. Only debates and holding discussions are not going to bring check to the commission of atrocities .The urgency is the application of the stringent laws. Educational tools to uplift the plight has yet to see far reaching desirable result because man considers himself to be a superior race than the her partner forgetting this very important part and reality of the life that he is in fact the gift of the same gender upon whom he is committing atrocities .The unrealistic and fake ego has blinded his own way of thinking and made him to remain in the cobweb of small dealings ill realising its repercussions. The situation has grown so worse that especially in the states like Haryana , Rajasthan, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh in the Northern belt of India ,people are not opting for the female babies despite laudable and attractive schemes launched by the Central and States Govt.'s to woo the expected couples and families to give due respect and encourage the birth of female babies but unfortunately very frequently we come across the reports of abandoning of the newly born female babies or the destroyed foetuses. In addition, Govt. has also initiated steps to check the pre natal test to ascertain sex of the expected child but again it has not yielded hundred percent effects. Thus under such circumstances how one can hope that we shall be able to maintain a biological balance. In the absence of which there is every possibility of growing unabated crime in different manifestations unfit for the society augmentation. It is therefore realised that mere Celebration of Women Day with much fanfare will not be able to empower the women and provide her equal rights which she deserves under the shade of Indian constitution. We have to raise our thinking levels, break the barriers and detest those who indulge in the concept of Honour Killings, dowry deaths and do not support the cause of women upliftment, and hold unworthy debates over their dress codes calling them sluts etc. We need to change our mindset realising that they are our arms on whom shoulders we share our burden to mitigate our own sufferings. They should be treated like the soul in the immortal bodies which inspire us to live with hunger to survive for more periods. Just hold the breathe and think that Can our survival without them is possible. Definitely the answer would be in negative and if it is the stark reality of the nature then there stands no second opinion and option except to offer them due respect they really deserves. Only in honest realisation lies our benefit and success to have a balanced flourishing of Gender Social Structure in the near future. |
