Govt pushing matter under carpet, making officials scapegoat: Mehbooba | Demands action should come from top | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 9: A day after raking up the issue of alleged embezzlement of Rs 50 in JKCA in the Legislative Assembly, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti today accused the government of trying to 'shield people at the highest level ' by pushing the matter under the carpet and making small officers scapegoat in the matter.PDP chief reiterated the demand to institute enquiry in the matter and said instead of making some officials scapegoat, the action should be taken at the against those at the highest level. She also posed a big question as to why there were double standards of measuring and looking corruption in J&K when similar cases were seen as huge irregularities followed by action against the people at the helm at national level. " Everyone knows it is the Union Energy Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah who is heading JKCA……..unfortunately they are trying to make the big fish get away …….they did the same thing in Haji Yousuf case who later died and could not expose the people having taken money at the highest level and now in this case adopting the similar approach…..after all it is a question of Rs 50 cr having been withdrawn fraudulently and how is it possible it not having been done without consent or knowledge of authorities at the helm", Mehbooba said, mincing no words that it is yet again a case of corruption and exchange of money at the highest level. " The government has got used to getting away from charges and responsibility whether it is corruption against the ministers, against the ruling party and now the latest being against Farooq Abdullah as head of JKCA….", she observed. Raising fingers at Dr Farooq Abdullah, PDP chief even went on to the extent of saying that government would go the same way to hush up the reality as in Haji Yousuf case and try to come clean by laying blame on others." Yeh Mulazimon Ko Bali Ka Bakra Bana Rahain Hain…..Jo Poori Tarah Sey mulavah Hain Voh Sadhu Ban Rahana Hain……Yousf Ki Tarah Is Mamley Bhi Agar Kisi Ko Jaan Deni Padey Mujey Koi Tajjub Nahi Hoga…….(They are making employees scapegoat…those who are actually involved are behaving like saints…..I won't be surprised if someone would have to lay down his life like Haji Yousuf was made to ….", Mehbooba , said making allegations in a direct and hitting manner. Speaking to reporters today outside the Assembly Hall over the issue, while Mehbooba stressed the need for fixing responsibility for the embezzlement of money against the authorities, she asserted that 'action has to come from the top……it should start against the people at the highest level….it won't serve any purpose by dismissing officials alone'. Mehbooba lamented that government was in the habit of blaming PDP for raising its voice . " Hamare Bachhaey Chotey cricket field key liye taras Rahen Hain…….Lekin Yeh log Us Paisey Ko Apni Ayashion Key Liye Uda Rahe Hain……(This money was meant for our youth who are craving for even small cricket fields……..but unfortunately they are embezzling it for their own enjoyment", the PDP chief lashed out without naming anyone in this remark, albeit with implicit inference. Stating that such matters of corruption day in and day out were becoming a cause of mis governance and alienation of people, she reiterated her party's resolve that apart from taking these matters to people in the streets , the party would make these issues resonate in the Assembly as well. Reacting to Mehbooba Mufti's charges and accusations, senior NC leader and Dr Farooq Abdullah's brother Sheikh Mustafa Kamal said JKCA was an autonomous body and it had initiated action in the matter for which it has been empowered. " As far as swindling of money is concerned it will be paid back and made good …let it not become media trial and let JKCA be allowed to look freely into the matter itself", Mustafa Kamal said in a defending tone. " If they have started some action then why it is being blown out of proportion …", he said adding "it is not such a big matter…….I fail to understand why PDP is drumbeating it …they are playing to the gallery …nobody should be allowed to play politics over sports bodies…", the NC leader observed. On the other hand PHE minister Taj Mohi-uDin too advocated that since JKCA was autonomous body, there was no role for the government in terms of initiating enquiry. " JKCA is under BCCI and it is the BCCI which should take cognizance or hold enquiry ………state government doesn't come in the picture ", Taj maintained.
