Ministers, Bureaucrats owe 1.39 Cr to PDD | CM, Speaker, Mufti among defaulters | | Early Times REport JAMMU, Mar 9: In a state where the Chief Minister fails to pay his electricity bill, expecting total prudence from the commoner is ridiculous if not sinful. The defaulters include incumbent Deputy Chief Minister, former Chief Minister, Law Minister and top bureaucrats as well. The figures were made available on the floor of the Legislative Assembly by the government. The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who heads the power ministry has Rs 83 thousand outstanding against him, while Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand has still failed to clear Rs 5.65 lakh he owes to the Power Development Department (PDD). After Tourism Minister, Rigzin Jora; the Chief Secretary is the biggest defaulter. They owe the PDD Rs 10.16 and Rs 9 lakh respectively. Shockingly the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly is also a defaulter. He has an outstanding of Rs 51,000 against him. Former Chief Minister, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed has a total outstanding of Rs. 3 lakh against him, which has so far not been cleared. PDP leader and former Finance Minister has failed to pay Rs 7.83 lakh. While the Social Welfare Minister Sakina Itoo has to pay Rs 8 lakh, Justice NA Kakroo has to clear Rs 9.50 lakh. Chairman Gujjar Bakerwal Board Bashir Ahmed Khan has power arrears of Rs 5 lakh, Chairperson of Social Welfare, Khem Lata Wakhloo, has Rs 5.65 lakh outstanding against her. MLA Budgam, Hakim Muhammad Yasin, owes PDD half a million bucks. The total outstanding against ministers and bureaucrats is RS 1.39 Crore. The Government departments have failed to clear Rs 900.49 crore (2010-2011) arrears to the department. Departments falling under EM&RE Wing Kashmir division have a total outstanding of Rs 271.06 crore against them while those falling under EM&RE Wing Jammu have failed to pay Rs 629.43 Crore. Public Health Engineering (PHE) department in Kashmir is the biggest defaulter and owes Rs. 4650.34 lakh to the PDD followed by Irrigation and Flood Control department which has a total outstanding of Rs 13729.74 crore. In Jammu division, Lift Irrigation department still has to clear Rs 4933.638 lakh, while PHE has total outstanding of Rs 36280.812 lakh pending against it. |
