| Manto's centenary celebrations | | Urdu dept, JU to hold play on Mar 12 | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 10: The Department of Urdu, University of Jammu (JU) is organizing a stage play based on life and short stories of legendary Short story writer of Urdu Sadat Hassan Manto on March 12 at Brigadier Rajinder Singh Auditorium of Jammu University.
This play is being organized in connection with the centenary celebrations of Sadat Hassan Manto which is being celebrated throughout the Urdu world. The title of the play is "Gair Zaroori Log" which has been authored by reputed writer Shahid Anwar and Directed by Mushtaq Kak, the former Director Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts, New Delhi. On the occasion the Dy Chairman Legislative Council M Y Taing will be the Guest of Honour while Jammu University Vice Chancellor Prof M.P. Singh Ishar will be the Chief Guest. Besides Minister for Higher Education Abdul Gani Malik will be the Special Guest. This was informed by HoD Urdu Prof Shohab Inayat Malik in a press statement.
Prof Malik said that "Gair Zaroori Log" stirs the collective memory, through the characters of Manto, to locate a specific political, social and cultural setting where an artist and his creation both turn into the "persona non grata".
He said that more such plays based on Manto short stories will be staged in near future because Manto had a multidimensional personality and his works are needed to be introduced to the new generation. |
