| Violence in Anantnag after youth run over by army vehicle | | | Early Times Report
Anantnag, Mar 10 : Two policemen were injured as violence erupted in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag town Saturday after a young man was run over by an army vehicle, police said.
Police used batons and fired tear smoke shells to disperse the mob following the incident even as the protesters torched the army vehicle. "A cyclist identified as Yasir Ahmad was hit by an army vehicle at K.P. Road in Anantnag town resulting in his death on the spot," a senior police said here.
"The army vehicle was set blaze by an irate mob that gathered at the spot. The fire was brought under control by the fire tenders.
However, the vehicle got partially damaged," said the official, adding that the police had seized the vehicle and arrested the driver.
"Two policemen were injured and several private cars were damaged when the irate mob pelted stones at them on K.P. Road. The situation was brought under control," said the official.
Reports reaching here, however, said stone pelting at the security forces continued in the evening as senior civil and police officials tried to pacify the angry protesters.
Shops, other businesses and transport were shut in the town after the incident. |
