Verbal spat between Mehbooba, Sagar in LA on Rajouri situation | PDP stages walkout against "mishandling of the situation" | | Bashir Assad JAMMU, Mar 10: Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Saturday witnessed a pandemonium when opposition PDP strongly reacted to the Law and Parliamentary minister, Ali Mahammad Sagar's "affecting style" and "mannerism" when he frequently interrupted PDP president Mehbooba Mufti during her speech on protracted curfew and mishandling of the situation in Rajouri and fomenting trouble by allowing Parveen Tagodia of VHP to rose communal passions in the district. Leader of opposition Mehbooba Mufti amid din made repeated efforts to make her point but was not allowed by the speaker with the plea that he has already directed the government to send a team of ministers to Rajouri and talk to he representatives of both the communities to ease the situation. Earlier when the House met here CH. Zulfikar of PDP stood up from his seat to make his point, "there is no relaxation in curfew for last three days in Rajouri, curfew bound people are running short of essentials and facing hardships, you cannot douse the flames by imposing curfew." Zulfikar said that the state is not under Governer's rule, there is a democratically elected government but nobody has visited that place as yet, some senior minister should have been directed to visit that area and talk to both the communities to ease out the situation. On this Balwant Singh Mankotia of Panthers Party also supported CH. Zulfikar's viewpoint and demanded that a senior minister should visit that place. Soon BJP members of both the factions stood up and shouted slogans against PDP and there was complete chaos in House for sometime. Legislators of PDP and BJP exchanged heated words with each other over the issue of the VHP leader Parveen Togadia visiting Rajouri town. Togadia's inflammatory speech led to the communal tension in the area following which authorities imposed curfew In the meantime Mehbooba made several attempts to raise her point but was again not allowed. On this PDP legislators marched towards the well and alleged that they were being discriminated by the chair since the ensuing session commenced. Javaid Mustafa Mir while coming into the well shouted loudly at speaker, "Sir why don't you allow leader of the opposition to speak on the issue , this is absolute discrimination". Nizamuddin Bhat of the same party cried, "You are discriminating us, everyone was allowed to speak except PDP." Soon PDP staged walkout in protest. CPI (M) legislator MY Tarigami who had just entered the House made his point saying that sufferings are being politicised. " Tagodia has done no good, he is a communal and this House has sympathy with the people of Rajouri" said Tarigami. Harshdev Singh of Panthers Party during his intervention said that Law enforcing agency should see who is responsible for vitiating the peaceful atmosphere in Rajouri. In the meantime PDP MLAs came back and demanded that leader of the opposition Mehabooba Mufti should be allowed to speak on the issue. Javaid Mustafa Mir, Ab. Haq Khan and Mushtaq Ahmad Shah again marched towards the well urging upon the speaker to allow Mehbooba Mufti to speak. However when Mehbooba started speaking she was frequently interrupted by Law and Parliamentary minister Ali Mohammad Sagar on which Mehbooba asked the minister, "to stop the commentary". "We are being deprived of even asking supplementary and everyday there is some kand or scandal but government is not ready to listen to us." On this Sagar retaliated, "you are wasting the time". What infuriated the opposition angry was the "affecting style" and "mannerism" of the minister. Javaid Mustafa Mir immediately stood up and said that the minister was misbehaving and was disreputable. Syed Bashir Ahmad while objecting to the ministers " mannerism" said, "Mr. Sagar learn to give respect and be social lest we will teach you how to behave." However Mehbooba cornered Sagar when she referred to the allegations of corruption being levelled against him for acquiring hundreds of kanals of land through benami transactions. She accused the government of fomenting trouble and mishandling the situation in Rajouri. She alleged that the government was undermining the Law and order and asked it to act before situation goes out of control. |
