On Day 4 of curfew in Rajouri, relaxation in 2 localities
3/11/2012 12:22:00 AM
Early Times Report
RAJOURI, Mar 10: While strict curfew restrictions remained enforced in rest of the town here on day 4 too, one hour relaxation was today given in two localities to enable people to visit markets for buying essential commodities.
The relaxation was given in Jawahar Nagar and Gujjar Mandi localities. No untoward incident was reported from there during the relaxation period. While people flooded the markets, shops of majority community remained closed.
Official sources said the relaxation in the two localities was given after reviewing the situation there.
The situation, which had turned tense on March 5 last after the alleged hate speech by
VHP's Togadia, worsened after some miscreants had stoned the holy Bhairav procession at City Chowk in the town. The peaceful procession was stoned for two consecutive days.
Following clashes between the two communities, the administration had clamped curfew in the town four days back. Since them, cops were patrolling the Rajouri roads and streets and maintaining a tight vigil to foil any attempt of miscreants to disturb peace in the area.
In the areas where no curfew relaxation was given, life remained paralysed for the fourth consecutive day.
Deputy commissioner, Rajouri, G A Khwaja said the administration was in full control of the situation and no one would be allowed to disturb peace in the district.
He said the administration was trying to pacify the people by holding talks with the members of both thecommunities.
