JKCA lodges FIR against Ahsan, Saleem | Aslam Goni terms bogus accounts 'big fraud' | | Rajesh Dhar JAMMU, Mar 10: On the directions of JKCA president and Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr Farooq Abdullah, the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) today has lodged an FIR bearing number 27/2012 U/S 406,409/120B with Ram Munshi Bagh Police Station Srinagar, against Ahsan Mirza, former treasurer and present general secretary JKCA and Saleem Khan, former general secretary and present Chief Administrative Officer JKCA, the two main accused in the JKCA multi-crore scam that surfaced in the association a few days back. This was aired by the chairman Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association, Mohd Aslam Goni while addressing a press conference at JKCA Office at Bhathindi, here today. "After consulting a local auditor and on his preliminary findings I last night communicated the facts to the president, who took serious note of the matter and directed me to lodge an FIR in this regard and on his directions FIR has been lodged with Ram Munshi Bagh Police Station, Srinagar," said Aslam Goni while talking to reporters. Terming the bogus accounts not only shortfalls but a 'big fraud', the JKCA chairman said that fraud was a fraud, hence there was a need to investigate the matter at an earliest and that is what JKCA has done by lodging an FIR, adding that the matter was with the police now, so let the law take its own course and bring the guilty to book. The JKCA would fully cooperate with the investigating agency and make all the records available for their perusal, he further added. He, however, said that during his preliminary enquiry, former treasurer Mirza has accepted the responsibility for the shortfalls and has promised in writing to repay the same to JKCA. Goni said that JKCA would audit the accounts from 19196 till date. While quoting the JKCA constitution, the chairman said that it was unfortunate that the JKCA president is being dragged in the controversy with political and personal reasons, otherwise, JKCA constitution clearly defines the role and duties of the office bearers. Replying to a question as to did Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) enquire in the matter, Goni said that there was no investigation from BCCI in the matter so far. Admitting that the scam was a grave embezzlement and a big jolt to JKCA, the chairman said that JKCA in fact was the whistle blower in this whole matter as it was the JKCA treasurer, Manzoor Ahmed Wazir, who first smelt foul and unearthed this scam. On a question as to what was JKCA's future plan to promote cricket activities in the state, Goni said that JKCA was in dilemma and everything seemed bleak at present. He, however, expressed hope that the things will be sorted out very soon to help the gentleman's game not to lose the sobriquet of 'gentleman' in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is pertinent to mention here that this scam, apart from affecting cricket activities, would serve as a stumbling-block for JKCA with regard to development of an International Standard Cricket Stadium at Bajalta in Jammu for which JKCA had already fixed March 18 as the date for foundation stone. Moreover, JKCA treasurer Manzoor Wazir has bowled a bouncer by unearthing the multi-crore scam and those who are good hookers and pullers will play it safely and those who will try to duck and weave will have to pay. |
