Geelani condemns killing of Anantnag youth, demands widening of roads to avoid accidents | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Mar 11 : separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Sunday said the condition of the roads has remained unchanged since 1947.Despite manifold increase in the means of transport , no attention is being paid on widening of the roads,Geelani said in a statement here. "Major chunk of the state budget goes waste on the overdue expenses of ministers and legislative members and less amount of the budget is being allotted for development," Geelani said. "The amount spent for the widening and up gradation of roads goes into the pockets of corrupt officers," he alleged. The Chairman faction of Hurriyat , Geelani, criticized army for what he said 'unleashing terror on Jammu and Kashmir roads.' "They (army) don't want to see anybody driving on the roads when they drive." A 17 year old Yasir Wani was killed due to the road accident by the army vehicle near Bus stand at Anantnag on Saturday . The police registered a case of negligent driving and arrested the drive of the army vehicle following the protest by the locals . Geelani's statement even blamed army for ignoring the traffic laws and resorting to over speed and said that despite big claims, government has failed to provide the better roads and has not bothered to widen them so that traffic accidents could be avoided. He said that the public anger over the killing of a youth Yasir Wani was understandable, adding that he himself wanted to go to Anantnag for condolences "but the government barred me from doing so."Geelani also regretted for the increase of traffic accidents along Srinagar-Jammu and Jammu-Kashtiwar roads and said these roads are proving lethal. |
