| Jammu Blue wins 10th korfball championship | | | Early times report
JAMMU, Mar 11: Jammu Blue today clinched the Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Memorial 10th State Korfball Championship trophy outplaying Jammu Red 17-16 in the keenly contested final played at Green Field ground, here.
Earlier, Jammu Blue was leading by three goals (8-5) in the first half of the game, but later, Jammu Red fought back and emerged winner by one point.
From Jammu Blue, Tarandeep, Mohit and Megha were main contributors with six, five and five points respectively. Ashwani (4), Harish (3), Natasha (2) scored for Jammu Red.
Earlier, in the semifinals, played in the morning session, Jammu Red beat Pulwama 20-10 while Jammu Blue trounced district Srinagar 09-01.
Third place went to district Poonch after they beat Srinagar 13-06 in the hardliner.
The three-day championship was organised by J&K Korfball Association under the aegis of J&K State Sports Council. In all, 16 teams drawn from different districts participated in this meet.
In the prize distribution function, retired Divisional Youth Services and Sports Officer, Tarlok Singh was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also their prizes to participating teams.
Prominent among other present were Association secretary, Manjit Singh, joint secretary, VP Sharma, treasurer, R K Sharma, Deshbandhu and Riaz Ahmed as also Madan Lal, Jahangir and Shabir Ahmed. |
