| JK Bank Academy, Sainik Colony, Young Rovers, Jammu Sports script resounding victories | | 2nd Rajiv Gandhi Gold Cup Football Tournament 2012 | | Early times report JAMMU, Mar 11: Jammu and Kashmir Bank Football Academy along with Sainik Colony, Young Rovers and Jammu Sports football clubs sailed into the next round by scripting convincing wins over their respective rivals in the ongoing 2nd Rajiv Gandhi Gold Cup Football Tournament 2012, being organized by All J&K Indira Gandhi Peoples Association at GGM Science College football ground, here. The tournament is being held under the overall supervision of Narinder Gupta, president of the said association. Earlier, in the first match JK Bank Academy blanked Power Development Corporation (PDC)-B by three goals to nil (3-0) in an easy contest. The first half of the match ended goalless as both the teams played defensively. However, the JK Bank players played aggressively in the second half and it was Aiman Rashid who netted the first goal in 42ndminute of the match, which was followed by a splendid goal scored by Adnan Ayub in 51st second, to extend the lead by one more goal and make it 2-0. Aggressive Aiman Rashid again struck in 63rd minute to take his team into the comfort zone. Finally, JK Bank won the match convincingly by 3-0. Yellow cards were shown to Parveen Kumar and Junaid Khan of JK Bank Academy, while Owais Farooq of PDC received the same treatment for foul and dangerous play. It is worth mentioning that J&K Bank after launching talent hunt programme short-listed young footballers in Jammu and Kashmir divisions to groom them for higher level of football. The Jammu & Kashmir Football Association has already registered these groups. It was the first match of the Jammu group of budding footballers being groomed by the bank. In the second match played today, Sainik Colony football club trounced Vijay Club Jammu by two goals to nil (2-0). Sainik Colony dominated the first half completely and led it by 2-0. Ishaan Verma notched the first goal in 9th minute which was followed by another goal netted by Sharan in 11th minute of the match. Both the teams tried their levels best to score goals in the second half, but failed in their essay, despite having close shaves. For foul play Sharan of the winning team was shown yellow card. Sainik Colony finally won by two goals to nil and entered the pre-quarterfinals. In another match, Young Rovers Club drubbed Bhagat Singh Club easily by two goals to nil (2-0). Gulshan scored a magnificent goal for Young Rovers in the 15th minute of the match and the first half ended with the same score. Bhagat Singh Club players made some good moves in the second half but failed in scoring an equalizer. However, Young Rovers players, who though played defensively in the second half, yet succeeded in netting another goal through Abhimanyu in 54th minute to finally win the match by 2-0. Parul of Young Rovers and Harpreet Singh of Bhagat Singh Club were shown yellow cards for foul play. In fourth and the last match of the day, Jammu Sports thrashed NGR by four goals to one (4-1) in a one-sided contest. Jammu Sports players dominated the game from the word go and Bunty gave them an early lead by scoring two fabulous goals in 8th and 18th minute of the match and the lead was increased by a superb goal netted by Sahil in 24th minute. The first half ended with the same score on the board. Jammu Sports increased the lead by yet another goal in the second half when Bunty netted his third and teams' fourth goal in 39th minute of the match. However, NGR reduced the lead by one goal as Lobzang scored a magnificent goal in 44th minute. Finally, Jammu Sports won the match by a margin of three goals and the scoreboard read 4-1 in their favour. Today's matches were officiated by a panel of experts drawn from various departments including Vijay Kumar, Sohan Kumar, Koushal Kumar, Rakesh Kumar (All J&K Police Department), Rohit Gupta, Gagan Kumar (Both Department of Youth Services and Sports), Rajeev Deb (Air Force), Vijay Kumar Ricky (SRTC), Suresh Gupta (Local Club) and Anil Kumar (Football Instructor Heritage Public School, Jammu). Tomo-rrow's fixture: JK Bank Academy shall face Param FC in the first match at 12 noon, Young Rovers shall lock horns with PDC-A at 1:30 pm and Young Heroes shall take on Jammu Sports at 3:00 pm. |
